Intro:
Crypt of the Ancients is one of the overall best farming areas in the game, and in my opinion the best mp10 farming area for Demon Hunters.
Gameplay:
Start on the act 1 quest The Broken Blade: Talk to Aleric. Run to Festering Woods, enter Crypt of the Ancients. You will get it as checkpoint and can teleport there directly.
Begin by gathering up the mobs and try to fight with as many summoners in range as possible so that they keep summoning more skeletons. If they are too spread out, you can kite between the groups. This helps you survive by giving you more targets to leech, proc night stalker and get globes from. But more importantly, you get more loot/exp. Dont bother with the casters or the last remaining skeletons, its not worth it. I can recommend Tianzis video for more detailed info (link at the end), my videos can probably be of a little use too.

This is the one I favor. Its the offensively strongest version, mostly thanks to the extra hatred. Shuriken procs both mortal enemy and night stalker which makes it stronger than it looks. However there are many other viable alternatives.
Bola Shot:
Imminent Doom for dps.
Highest damage, my choice. The delay is not so bad when you can instantly get life steal from Jagged Spikes.
Thunder Ball
Stun. Not tested but some people say its good, mostly calamity users
Bitter pill for more disc.
Personally I dont need it, but could be good.
Cluster Grenades
Usable, the best skill for procing.
I do not recommend Volatile Explosion, kills trash faster which isnt needed, and doesnt add anything else. It has half the proc chance of the other runes. Can cause permanent damage to your eyes.
Spike Trap with Echoing Blast:
Our strongest hatred spender. Skeletons are slow moving melee units with a very simple "attack the player"-AI, which is perfect for this skill.
Shadow Power with Gloom:
No explanation needed.
Caltrops with Jagged Spikes:
You can have up to 5 of these out. With Custom Engineering they last 12 seconds and do 540% damage. If you cast it during Gloom it will snapshot the life steal, which improves your survivability a lot, especially when afflicted by freeze and such. For the same reasons as with Echoing Blast, CotA is the perfect area to use this in.
Note: Does not profit from attack speed, but crits even if you cant see it.
Last 2 active skills is your choice:
Vault with Trail of Cinders or Tumble
You often get trapped in narrow passages or the hordes of skeletons. I recommend most players to use this, at least to begin with.
Marked for Death with Mortal Enemy
More dps against the skeleton champion, which is what you should focus on increasing your dps against. Mortal enemy gives hatred, which also increases your dps. It can proc every 0.5 seconds from Chain of Torment and Shuriken Cloud.
Chakram with Shuriken Cloud
If you cast it with Gloom on, it will keep the life leech for the full duration. It procs Night Stalker and Mortal Enemy. A bit extra dps. Not affected by attack speed.
Sentry with Guardian Turret
Some extra protection.
Sentry with Chain of Torment
For the damage, life steal and Mortal Enemy proc. With 3 out it can give you up to +18 hatred per second. However, its awkward to use, requires positioning and costs hatred. Most people dislike it. I find it fun to use once in a while. Do not use it with nats helm!
Rain of Vengeance
Some people like it, Im not sure.
Preparation
If you need more discipline.
Passives
Night Stalker
Works great thanks to the heavy mob density, even with low aps. Very high disc and preparation is a possible alternative, but not a good one.
Vengeance
For once it works well on mp10, thanks again to the hordes of skeletons. The DH generally has good dps on low mps but it decreases on higher since we run out of hatred. This build and area is an exception, thanks to being able to use this skill.
Custom Engineering
Takes Jagged Spikes and doubles it ^_^. You also need it for Echoing blast since you have a lot of hatred to spend, without this it goes to waste. Ive seen some calamity users run archery instead, but I dont get how you manage to use up your hatred without it.
Items
Regular high mp stuff. You dont need much +disc but a little extra is nice. Stone of Jordan with Spike Trap or Bola Shot bonus is the best ring choice, with this build spike trap is likely best.
The only absolutely necessary stat is at least 5-7 pickup radius.
You could do this with a 100m build, if you buy the right items:
Weapon: Manticore with high crit, dex, 1 socket 1300 dps. The last affix isnt important, maybe you can get a bit of vit or extra dex.
Quiver: Dead Mans Legacy with Bola Shot bonus and a useful random roll like dex, vit, socket, life%.
Ring1: Stone of Jordan with Spike Trap or Bola Shot.
Ring2: Hellfire, rare or Litany of the Undaunted. First priority id dex, chc, chd.
Amulet: Craft.
Gloves: Craft.
Bracers: Craft. Good place to get pickup radius.
Shoulders: Craft (or vile ward). Good place to get pickup radius.
Boots: Nats with vit.
Chest: Nats with spike trap bonus. Vit, dex, armor, all resist, damage taken from elites. Find what you can afford. Remember that a good skill bonus is worth more than a few stat points.
Belt: Innas with all resist or dex+vit
Pants: Innas with all resist or vit
Helm: Mempo with vitality.
Shouldnt cost much, unless you dont craft. Bidding is much cheaper than buyouts, unless youre very lucky or patient. Youll probably have a bit too much defensive and not enough offensive with my suggested items, but you can adjust that. This is just an example, and should only be followed exactly if youre completely lost :)
Nice stats to reach would be 50k life, 400 all res, 200k dps.

This is simply an example of a usable spec for PVP. Youll note that certain abilities that do not get commonly used at higher level gear permutations are being used here.
Impale Chemical Burn is one of the few DoT abilities we have, and works amazingly well against other players. Between this and Cluster Arrow LFB, you should have no trouble downing targets with such high burst damage.Spitfire turrets are to make use of the rockets, which can turn corners and follow players even if they go invisible, allowing you to track them. Youll notice that Sharpshooter is also being used in this spec as much of the "cat and mouse" time allows for significant build up of your critical hit chance and make sure that when you do it, you make it count.
Many players will also choose to use Companion Boar as well as Evasive Fire: Covering Fire, which is great, but does less damage (especially considering those high HP barbs these days) though requires practically 0 aiming. Big plus, it hits multiple targets
Gearing: Heavy weighting toward EHP with significantly less weighting toward DPS. Add as much discipline as you can for added survival with smoke screen spams. As players are considered "Elite" targets, high level Stones of Jordan (28-30% Bonus Elite damage) are valuable. Try to choose one with a skill bonus you use frequently.

It seems that there are lots of people that have began playing their DH again, with lots of questions about gearing, paragon leveling, and loot farming. Right now Strafe:Demolition happens to be one of the fastest and most efficient farming specs, with people getting experience rates over 100m exp/hour in MP0. Since 1.0.7 does not change anything with the DH Strafe:Demolition build, I figured itd be good time to write up a detailed guide on how to gear for and play the spec efficiently.
Please note that this guide ONLY covers Strafe:Demolition, and does not include ANY other strafe runes or other builds.

Strafe Mechanics and Basic PlayStyle
Strafe is a auto-aiming channeled ability that spends 12 hatred per attack cycle, where each attack cycle depends on your APS (attacks per second). In each attack cycle you throw 2 bouncy grenades dealing 93.5% weapon damage each. Strafe:Demo also has a proc coefficient of 50% for each target hit, which is relevant for disc regeneration when using the Nightstalker passive. Because Strafe:Demo hits for such a low amount of damage spread among many targets, it is best used in low/no monster power.
Notice how bouncy was underlined in the previous paragraph. Because of the fact that these grenades bounce, it leads to a situation where being closer to the target increases your chance to hit the target(s). Simply put, you want to be standing on your targets while playing the strafe:demo spec, especially vs enemies with a small hit-box.
This leads into an interesting situation with gearing, where strafe basically requires a higher amount of effective hit points (eHP) then other Demon Hunter specs. While typical DH specs stay at range and nuke enemies, strafe:demo plays more like a WW Barb where you stand on top of mobs and spin-to-win. Because of this, the gearing requirements lean towards All Resists, Armor, and Vitality in order to have higher eHP.
Passive Skills
Sorry, You really dont get options on passives if you want high efficiency.
- Passive 1) Tactical Advantage
Pretty much to move faster between point A and point B, and to move on top of mobs faster to maximize DPS. No point farming slow when you can farm fast. - Passive 2) Vengeance
Used to restore hatred from health globes. Without vengeance and no hatred generator youll constantly be standing around doing nothing. - Passive 3) Night Stalker
Used to restore discipline so you can vault more. Walking is a waste of time when you can vault. - Skill 1) Strafe: Demolition
This is basically what this build is all about. Strafe in basically your main damage dealing ability. - Skill 2) Vault: Tumble (or Trail of Cinders)
Vault lets you move from point A to point B faster. Players with the Legacy Natalya set, or using Preparation in the 6th skill slot, can use the �Trail of Cinders� rune instead. - Skill 3) Shadow Power: Gloom
Shadow Power is needed for healing, and for standing on dangerous affixes. While other DH specs do the same DPS regardless of distance, Strafe:demo builds kill faster when mobs move less. That means you will end up standing in affixes such as molten or plague which can potentially kill you without gloom. If your eHP is high enough you can swap �Gloom� for �Shadow Glide�. - Skill 4) Companion: Bat
The bat is used for hatred regeneration since this spec generally does not have a hatred generator.
You pretty much need these 4 abilities in order for the spec to work.
Optional Active Skills
Choose 2 of these skills for the last 2 skill slots
- Optional Skill) Fan of Knives: Hail of Knives
Fan of Knives is mainly used for killing elites. - Optional Skill) Rain of Vengence: Dark Cloud
This is basically for additional AoE damage. - Optional Skill) Chakram: Shuriken Cloud
This ability can "snapshot" gloom to give constant healing from monsters in melee range. Simply make sure gloom is active when you activate shuriken cloud, and you will get the life steal effect for the full 2 minutes.
Basic Gearing:
Because of its higher eHP requirement, many players feel like Strafe requires expensive gear. However, you can actually sacrifice quite a bit of DPS as long as you meet the eHP requirements. Even a low budget set costing under 20m gold ($5) can farm well over 50million exp/hour.
For low budget Strafe Gearing, I would suggest at least 400 All Resists, 40k HP, 3.5k Armor, and 80k DPS and at least 7 Pickup radius (preferably 14+ if you can afford it). As you upgrade gear just get more DPS and pickup radius without dropping the defensive stats.
Please note that Strafe DPS gearing should be focused around Crit Chance and Dex and AverageDamage items. Crit Damage is of slightly lower importance due to increased chance of overkill, and Attack Speed is low priority because it drains hatred while increasing chance of wasted grenades due to overkill.

*Removed Gear list because it depends heavily on the stats you end up with on your account bound items. Simply aim to hit these stats:
- 80k DPS MINIMUM (dont bother with the build if you are under)
- 40k HP
- 400 All Resists
- 3.5k Armor
- 7+ Pickup Radius
- 24% Move Speed (Boots+Innas Pants)
Make sure to get +7 to 8 Strafe Crit on your Cloak.

The Enemy Within
Very little is known about the secret society of demon hunters. While not native to the region, this elusive cadre of warriors has chosen to root its forces amidst the ruins of a forgotten city located in the Dreadlands. Apprentices come from every corner of the land, all bearing the scars of demonic attack�all seething with hatred for the hellspawn that left their twisted mark. The recruiters know that only those with a personal vendetta will be driven enough to complete the harsh training required to stand as a true demon hunter.
Neophyte hunters are trained merely by surviving in the demon-infested wastes of the Dreadlands. Since 1.0.5+, all of us that are still playing are farming keys for our hellfire rings. With that I though Id send in a build that will help you push the limits of what your Demon Hunter can do and get those keys as quick as possible.. sort of.
The main thing about this build is that it relies heavily on defenses. That means youll be sacrificing dex for vit and all resists so that you can take some hits. A high crit is necessary too.
The point of this being that theres no reason to die on every other elite which wastes your time and gold. Instead, what youll be doing is using Shadow Power to its fullest advantage and shifting away from using a spamable secondary attack and into using Spike Traps.
The Build:
- Primary: Hungering Arrow - Spray of Teeth
- Secondary: Your choice
- Slot 1: Shadow Power - Gloom
- Slot 2: Spike Trap - Echoing Blast
- Slot 3: Companion - Bat Companion
- Slot 4: Preparation - Battle Scars
- Passive 1: Night Stalker
- Passive 2: Perfectionist
- Passive 3: Archery
First thing to note: you will not be mowing though enemies as you might be used to on your farming runs. The point of this is build is strictly to maximize your survivability so you can farm at higher monster power levels. Higher MP = better chance of key drops.
How it works: Spike Traps do a ridiculous amount of damage and echoing blast allows each one to explode 3 times for every trap you drop. Its completely possible to do a grand total of 2475% weapon damage to a single target in about 10 seconds (I think less actually) assuming not one of your nine spike trap explosions crit. All the while youll be restoring 15% of that as life. With a reasonable amount of crit chance youll be restoring discipline as fast your spending it thanks to Night Stalker.
This should allow you to keep up shadow power almost constantly. When you do take damage or run low on discipline you can instantly restore it with Preparation. Since your spike traps do so much damage, this allows you to spend your hard earned gold on items that have higher vit and not the usually more expensive items with high dex. Youll still have to keep you crit chance as high as possible so you can keep getting discipline back, but thats really about all you have to do. Any extra dex or crit damage you can get will speed things up but theyre not necessary until you have the gold to blow obviously.
Heres how youll be fighting with this build:
Drop your spike traps at your feet or somewhere that you know your mobs will be walking through. As soon as your targets begin walking through your traps, hit shadow power. Gloom provides 35% damage reduction while shadow power is active which will allow you to basically stand in place fire a few arrows while your hatred regens.
As your hatred comes back, kite 20 yards or so or around any chunk of the environment, drop traps, hit shadow power, and repeat til dead. With this build, you can for alot of elite packs, stand in place and simply stack spike traps underneath them while you constantly restore health.
The End: Killing stuff isnt going to go very quickly, but youll be able to play on your highest possible monster power without dying nearly as much. And you get to be one of very few people who can say they have a tank DH. I hope this helps you guys get your keys! Good luck!
