DB2 for Linux HOWTO now available

Hi everyone,

Ive just published a major revamp of the DB2 for Linux HOWTO document, and its available for reading/downloading from:

Der beste WLAN Stick Alfa AWUS036H Linux 2015

Wer mit 2.4 GHz leben kann und kein 5 GHz ben�tigt, der sollte sich den Alfa AWUS036H etwas genauer anschauen. Ich hab den Stick Oktober 2014 bekommen und nun rund 3 Monate im Test. Sucht man im Internet, dann gibt es zwei Gruppen, welche oft nicht zu frieden sind - Windows 7 Nutzer und K�ufer von einem Fake (kein Original).

Sehr gutes und starkes Signal, dazu noch ab Ubuntu 14.04 und Linux Mint 17 keine Treiberinstallation notwendig. Funktioniert auch unter Raspbian, somit Raspberry Pi 2 und Banana Pi - keine Probleme.

Meine Router haben eine Signalst�rke von 100%, und selbst die von der anderen Stra�enseite haben fast alle ~50%. Jetzt kommt aber der eigentliche Pluspunkt.

Das w�re mit 20 dBm (100mW), da in Deutschland nicht mehr erlaubt ist. M�glich w�ren aber 30 dBm (1000mW) Sendeleistung. In Bosnien kann ich auf 1000 mW hochschalten und das ist dann schon der Hammer. Kurze Erkl�rung dazu, wie das funktioniert:

Mit su und dem Benutzerpasswort sich als Root anmelden (wie geht das?) und dann diese Befehle ausf�hren.
[1] ifconfig wlan0 down (deaktiviert den WLAN-Stick)
[2] iw reg set BO (wir kommen aus Bolivien - dort ist es erlaubt)
[3] iwconfig wlan0 txpower 30 (auf 30 dBm setzen)
[4] ifconfig wlan0 up (aktiviere den WLAN-Stick)
[5] iwconfig (hier k�nnen wir �berpr�fen, ob die �nderung �bernommen wurde)

Mit dem letzte Befehl �berpr�ft Ihr, was unter Tx-Power steht. Ihr m�sst halt immer darauf achten, was in eurem Land erlaubt ist. In den Staaten w�ren es 24 bzw. 25, hier sind es 20, usw.
Solltet Ihr mehrere WLAN-Karten besitzen (Notebook zum Beispiel), dann erst im Terminal den Befehl ifconfig ausf�hren und schauen, ob es wlan0, wlan1, wlan2, usw. usf. ist und im Befehl das wlan0 ersetzen bzw. die Zahl �ndern.

Der Chipsatz kommt von Realtek, der RTL8187 aber das gro�e Problem bleiben die ganzen Kopien vom Stick.
Mit der 9dBi Stabantenne (war bei mir im Lieferumfang enthalten) kommen noch ein paar WLAN-Netzwerk auf den Bildschirm. Ist aber schon zu viel gewesen...

Wer mit 2,4 GHz leben kann, kein 802.11n ben�tigt, der bekommt hier etwas "sehr starkes". Auch f�r viele ein Tipp, wenn Kali Linux zum Einsatz kommt. Ich pers�nlich werde weiterhin auf Router mit Linux-Firmware setzen aber der Stick kommt mit, wenn ich irgendwo hin muss. Trotzdem empfehle ich f�r zu Hause einen Router, welcher "angepasst" werden kann (Beispiel hier).

DEFT “Zero” Linux 2017 1 Lightweight Digital Forensics Distro Available For Download

Developers of DEFT Linux distro for hacking and digital forensics have released the lightweight version of their operating system. DEFT Linux 2017.1 Zero is based on Lubuntu 14.04.02 LTS. The operating system needs lesser RAM to run and offers 3 booting modes that are designed to suit your different needs. DEFT (Digital Evidence & Forensics Toolkit) is a Linux distribution that�s developed to cater the needs of the professionals and non-experts to gather and preserve digital evidence. This free and open source operating system comes loaded with some of the best open source applications for computer forensics.

The developers of DEFT recently released DEFT Zero, dubbed version 2017.1, that�s supposed to be the lightweight version of this hacker Linux distro. This release is here after about 2 years of hiatus by DEFT team.

Features of DEFT Zero Linux 2017.1

DEFT Zero Linux 2017.1 needs lesser memory to run, 400MB to be precise. This means that you can boot this digital forensics operating system on an obsolete and low resource PC. It also supports 32-bit as well as 64-bit hardware, with Secure Boot and UEFI.

The other big features of DEFT Zero 2017.1 are the support for NVMExpress memories (MacBook 2015) and the eMMC memories.

Based on Lubuntu 14.04.02 LTS, the future releases of DEFT Zero will be developed in parallel with DEFT full version.

Three booting modes in DEFT Zero

DEFT Zero Linux 2017.1 comes in three boot modes � RAM preload GUI mode, GUI mode, and text mode. The RAM preload mode loads DEFT Zero in RAM with GUI to get you started. RAM preloading means that after the booting, you can remove the disk or the USB drive. For this, the hardware must be having at least 512MB RAM.

The second mode, the normal GUI mode, consumes lesser RAM than preload mode. If you�re using an old hardware and you prefer a GUI, this mode is perfect for you. However, if you love the command line, you can go for the text mode. It also uses lesser RAM as compared to the other two modes.

Desktop Linux Is Ready!

For a long time Linux was criticised as being too complicated and difficult for non-technical people to use. Personally I dont think that was ever really the case. I mean if Linux came pre-installed like Windows then the OEM would tweak it and install it to suit their hardware.

However Canonical has gone out of its way now to prove to bury this myth once and for all. Take a look at the installation slide show for Ubuntu 9.10. Linux is ready for the desktop. Its ready for the mass market. Its ready for anybody that wants to use it. It doesnt matter if its pre-installed or installed after market.

With respect to the basic installation, Ubuntu is now on par with Windows XP, Vista and even Windows 7. After the compiz effects have been enabled Ubuntu goes well beyond what Windows 7 is offering in terms of entertaining and useful desktop effects. And lets not forget the host of free software applications available directly from Canonicals Ubuntu repositories. Which contain everything from games to office productivity suits to web browsers to e-mail clients to extremely powerful tools for ICT professionals.

Ubuntu is also an OS well suited to "power users" with its extremely high degree of customisability. Theres nothing that cant be changed or tweaked. You can even change the entire desktop environment!

Now since Windows 7 has been available for testing many different sources have been quoting "boot times" of 20 to 30 seconds for Windows 7. Its become something of a selling point due to the fact Vista was so slow and a 6 month old installation of XP crawled along at a snails pace.

Well a default installation of Ubuntu 9.04 boots in around 15 to 20 seconds. From a cold start. Potentially 5 to 10 seconds faster than Microsofts latest and greatest Windows 7. The "boot times" for which by the way are actually restore from hibernation times!

At the time of writing, 10th October 2009, were about 19 days from the final release of Ubuntu 9.10. Windows 7 will be out on October 22nd 2009. Ubuntu 9.10 has already been quoted as being able to boot from a cold start in 5 seconds when installed to an SSD.

So desktop Linux can now claim feature parity with desktop Windows. And as an added bonus it can also claim faster boot times as well as many other advantages. Linux is ready! Ubuntu is ready!

Microsoft and Apple are not the only game in town any longer!

Debian GNU Linux 8 7 Released Update ISOs Now Available

The Debian Project has released the seventh update of Debian 8 Jessie. This release ships with tons of security updates, bug fixes, and updated packages. The existing users of Debian 8 need to point the apt package tool to one of the updated Debian mirrors and get the update. The new installation media and ISO images are yet to be published.

Update: Debian 8.7�s ISO images are now available for download. It can be grabbed via these mirrors or download the installation images from here.

Back in early 2015, Debian 8.0 Jessie was released after spending two years in development. This release switched back to GNOME as the default desktop environment choice. Now, the Debian Project is here with the latest update to this long-standing Linux distribution.

The seventh update of Debian 8, i.e. Debian GNU/Linux 8.7, has just been released. As expected, this release fixes tons of existing security issues. Notably, many of the included security advisories were already published and referenced.

Long time Linux users must be knowing that security is one of the primary concern of the Debian Project. The project handles all security-related issues brought to their attention and ensures their fixes in a reasonable time limit.

The release notes for Debian 8.7 include many bug fixes and security updates, which you can find here. The release has 80+ bugfixes and 80+ security patches.

One should also note that Debian GNU/Linux 8.7 isn�t a new version of Debian. Instead, it includes security updates and updated packages. So, if you�re already running Debian 8 Jessie, you don�t need to perform a fresh install. Just update via an updated Debian mirror to get all the new packages.

At the moment, new installation media and CD/DVD images are yet to be published. We�ll be updating the article when the ISO images will be available.

DEB Dateien installieren Linux Mint 18

Wollt Ihr Google Chrome, Steam, Opera, Viber, usw. usf. installieren, dann bietet euch der Hersteller oft Debian-Pakete an, f�r Linux Mint 18. Dieses k�nnt Ihr an der Dateiendung .deb erkennen.

Ich will euch hier erkl�ren, wie Ihr mehrere Debian-Pakete gleichzeitig installieren k�nnt.

Hier mal ein Beispiel daf�r. Ich habe mir drei Dateien heruntergeladen und m�chte, dass das alles gleichzeitig installiert wird. Wie oben im Bild, einen freien Bereich suchen, Rechtsklick und Im Terminal �ffnen anw�hlen.

Mit dem Befehl ls werden euch noch einmal alle Dateien aufgelistet, welche sich im momentanen Verzeichnis befinden. Ihr k�nnt das letzte Bild mit dem vorletzten Bild vergleichen und versteht sofort, was damit gemeint ist. Das Zeichen * spielt in diesem Fall eine gro�e Rolle.

Mit dem Befehl sudo dpkg -i *.deb sage ich dem Terminal "installiere alles, was die Endung .deb hat (in dem Ordnern, in welchem wir uns momentan befinden)".

Bedeutet Google Chrome, Opera und Steam wird installiert.

Ihr m�sst einfach warten...

Jetzt kann es oft passieren, das Pakete fehlen. Oben im Bild k�nnt Ihr in den letzten vier Zeilen sehen "Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von: google-chrome-stable opera-stable".

Jetzt k�nnte es passieren, das Google Chrome nicht startet, weil eben die Installation nicht zu 100% erfolgreich war. In diesem Fall lautet die L�sung: sudo apt-get -f install

Mit diesem Befehl pr�ft euer System ob etwas fehlt. Hier hat es erkannt, dass das Paket libcurl13 fehlt, was Google Chrome und Opera in diesem Fall verwenden. J Taste dr�cken und mit der Entertaste best�tigen. Es k�nnte sein, das ein Hinweis erscheint, wie dieser:

Opera zum Beispiel will eine Paketquelle eintragen, ins System. Das ist nur mit eurer Best�tigung m�glich. Wenn Ihr das nicht wollt, dann k�nnt Ihr das ablehnen. Hier arbeitet Ihr mit den Pfeiltasten und der Entertaste auf eurer Tastatur.

Tragt Ihr die Quelle ein, dann wird es in Zukunft (wie im Bild oben) immer Updates f�r Opera geben. Sollte das nicht der Fall sein, dann wie unter Windows gewohnt auf der Homepage herunterladen und neu installieren.

Nach der Installation k�nnt Ihr die Anwendungen im Startmen� aufrufen.

Ihr k�nnt die Dateien auch mit einem Doppelklick installieren, wie Ihr es unter Windows kennt.

Doppelklick auf .deb Datei --> Paket installieren

Im Terminal w�rde das so aussehen:

W�re das selbe - daher habt Ihr hier die freie Wahl.

Ich pers�nlich lade alle Dateien herunter, welche ich ben�tige und mache es, wie oben beschrieben. Ist f�r mich pers�nlich der deutlich schnellere Weg und bei Fehlern sehe ich gleich, wenn es etwas fehlen sollte.

Deepin 15 4 another beautiful Linux distribution

This time I am not going to discuss about Manjaro. I want to show some nice screenshots of the new version of Deepin 15.4, an Ubuntu based Linux distribution that stole public attention. Deepin 15.4 is developed by Chinese Linux Community which brings many native applications and Deepin Desktop Environment. Deepin 15.4 is very easy to use and its damn beautiful.

There is also Deepin version of Manjaro but it seems still uses the older Deepin Desktop. So, I cant wait the upcoming Manjaro with the latest Deepin Desktop. Meanwhile, you may want to take a look at this wonderful Linux Distro.

I made some changes such as change the wallpaper to something more eye catching :). Deepin Desktop works pretty well on a low end laptop such as Lenovo Ideapad 300 series.

Application Launcher

Application Launcher in Deepin 15.4 has been redefined, better and more responsive than previous version. Its very smooth when using it. All installed applications are listed here. We can also change the layout of the applications to be grouped based on category.

Deepin Control Center

To access all settings in Deepin, use Control Center. It will display any settings such as network, appearance, account settings and many more.

4. Dell announces the models for Ubuntu
