Dell sells Ubuntu But its NOT recommended says this CSR

Surely, I am an advocate of Dell (and system76.com, and now HP for mobile mi(its Ubuntu)) because of their GUTS to sell GNU/Linux to end users! That being said, I wanted for people to see this story to raise awareness. Regular people are getting pushed around, being discouraged from choice, and soldiers of freedom MUST ANSWER! BRING IT ON!!

Dead Or Alive 5 XB360 Unlike project Epsilon this was not a failure

Dead Or Alive 5 XB360 Unlike project Epsilon this was not a failure

The first time I played Dead or Alive was Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore for the PS2. Fairly sure it was the first PS2 game I ever owned, and man did I play the shit out of that one. A fairly simplistic one on one fighter with some interesting characters, fun and fast combat, and tons of costumes to unlock. It also had a story, but good fucking luck trying to make sense of it. Despite it being fully voice acted, even if you played all the stories it didnt really help clear things up.

In any case, Ive followed the game gradually as it worked its way from console to console. Despite the addition of new characters in each game, there didnt seem to be a whole lot of innovation to the franchise. Some of the story got even more muddled from what little they gave you, and it has some bizarre spin offs where you play beach volleyball and oogle the characters boobies. That being said, I still love it as a fighting game so I picked up the new one after the holiday to see how it holds up.

DEAD OR ALIVE 5: (XB360)

As I fired the game up, I immediately took note that not much seemed to change right out the gate. I was able to fire it up and jump right into the arcade mode and basically it felt like all the other installments of the game. First thing I really want to make note of in this review, is that the graphics in this game have been immensely improved from the previous installments. All of the characters have have lost kind of the animeish looking eyes that they used to have to favor a more realistic and human looking facial features. I actually really liked the change.

Although, the ladies in this game still move around like they stuffed a pair of water balloons down their shirts and they are standing on the deck of a boat in the storm. The devs actually wanted to tone down the jiggle physics in the game to try to give it a more realistic an serious bent, but the fans pissed and cried about it till they changed it back (something I will now refer to as "Mass Effecting" the game and devs).

I would like to give a  massive thank you to the people at Tecmo for adjusting the difficulty a bit in this one. Dead or Alive 4s was downright murderous on pretty much any difficulty setting you chose. Now at least in this game you have some options.

For all the major play modes outside of story mode, they are broken up into courses ranging from Rookie to Legend. With each step up in rank, so does the difficulty and in the case of the survival mode so does the number of people to fight.

Thank you to DOA5 for bringing that back, by the way. In one on one fighters if you dont play games online like I do, then you will find yourself getting bored sooner than later when you complete the story. Survival mode should be a standard that is in on every one on one fighter. It should be executed like DOA5 does it where as soon as you beat an enemy, the next one jumps in immediately  No load times, no screen transition, the action just keeps moving.

All of the other modes are fairly unremarkable. Arcade mode, which is just 8 fights in a row 2 rounds.  Time attack mode: which is the same as arcade but it keeps your total play time. Both of which of those modes you can play single or tag team. And the aforementioned survival mode. There is also a spectator mode where you can watch too computer players go at it as well while you take pictures. But lets face it, people use this mode to get upskirt shots or freeze them in peculiar positions, such as Kasumis face straddling throws.

The actual combat of the game hasnt changed much since DOA2: Hardcore but they have polished and sharpened things up. The game is ideal because any button masher can pick the game up and start wailing away on people, but every character has a massive repertoire of moves that you can run through in training mode. So there can be a lot of technically pleasings ways to play as well. Im a big fan of using Helena because her combos switch from low to high constantly and they are tricky to counter.

As the new girl, Milas move set is kinda a limited compared to everyone else
But god damn is she fun to use.
Speaking of which, the countering system is probably the most polished its ever been. In DOA2  you could pretty much hit back and hold and it would reverse pretty much any move the enemy threw at you. Fun against the computer but in 2 player it just resulted with two players constantly grabbing at air.

Now their "Rock, Paper, Scissors" system of combat actually as some substantial balance to it. You can actually fling some punches or kicks because the countering system requires more precision to execute, namely by hitting a direction to correspond to high, med, and low attacks. They had this in DOA4 but it always felt more like a roll of the dice. I feel like I have better control here.

Its roster is bigger than its ever been. With pretty much all of the 17 main characters returning for the 5th installment, it introduces 2 new characters in Mila: the foxy MMA style fighter and Rig: who uses Taekwondo. Both of them bring in fighting styles not previously in the game, which make them both fun alternatives to the already extensive cast.

Also, this edition of Dead or Alive marks another first as it started to cross over with competing fighting game Virtua Fighter as some of that series established veterans in Sarah, Akira, and Pai Chan make an appearance. I havent unlocked Pai yet but Sarah and Akira both fit in seamlessly. It had been a while since I last played a Virtua Fighter but it took little time to re-acclimate to using Sarah. Where is Jacky though?

This is kind of a nit picky thing to keep complaining about, but seriously? Fuck downloadable content. Im really getting tired of pissing and moaning about this but it makes me angry each time. One of my favorite reasons for playing DOA2: Hardcore was all the of the cool and different costumes you can unlock by continually playing your favorite characters. Some of the girls have upwards 6 or 7 different costumes a piece. That to me is awesome, fun to do, and gives me a reason to keep playing the game.

And while DOA5 boasts a pretty sizable number of costumes, a lot of the nifty and fun cosplay types arent in there. Why? because you have to pay extra for them in DLC. Doing the math? To get all the extra costumes for the game you have to pay upwards 5000 or more Microsoft points, which is like an additional 50 bucks. Im sorry, but thats absolute bullshit. Costumes for characters shouldnt be anything more than 50 cents tops.

Make DLC have sizable and significant changes to the game. I will download the free ones you have offered (and I might bite on the maid pack since I dig that look, {Dont judge me}) you can go fuck yourself with your stupid downloadable content.

I uh... Yep, totally playing this game for the fighting. Yep...
Credible game journalist.. thats me.
Now, youll notice that I didnt start this review going into the story line like I usually do. There are two reasons why I did it this way. One, the story in this game is so muddled up and complex that I cant really find a way to narrow it to one paragraph. And two, its because I wanted to save this for last because this is the area of the game where DOA5 has made some DRASTIC improvement.

Usually in fighting games, the story mode usually consists of some small prologue when you start then you play the game via arcade mode. Occasionally youll get a cut scene mid game and then an ending after you beat the last boss. I would say the Tekken Series and the Street Fighter Alpha series probably perfected this style. For this genre of game, it worked for the most part. But if you really wanted the whole "story" of this type of game, youd really need to play through it with every character. For some of these games, thats pretty daunting.

Persona 4 Arena did an interesting try with the story where it functioned a lot like its RPG roots where you had a lot of character interaction and story telling between the fight sequences  Ill admit it did a great job in telling a story, but there was WAY too much of it for the amount of fighting you do. Ended much too quickly and it could get boring.

Dead or Alive 5 has shaken up this formula. Since many of the characters in the DOA universe are connected you dont get to select a character and jump right in. The game sets you on a timeline, and shows you many animated fully voice acted cut scenes that pick up after the end of 4. It gives the story some real meat to it, and none of the cut scenes run on so long that it gets too excessive between the fights. At least not like Persona 4 Arena did.

The timeline jumps from character to character and you play about 3 fights with each of them. Some of them are looking to win the DOA tournament, some are looking to hone their fighting abilities, but the real linchpin of the story focuses on the ninja characters and their battles against DOATEC.

When using characters not tied to the main story, the pacing can get light  hearted
 or downright silly, but it doesnt really affect the overall story too badly
To give a brief summary, Helena tried to destroy DOATEC for their work with weapons at the end of 4 before she was rescued by Zack (who still sucks). Two years later she has assumed control of the company and is trying to right its goals to more peaceful aspirations and has partnered up with Kasumi on her hunt for the clones of her(Kasumi) created by DOATEC to be sold as elite ninja weapons. Hayate, Ayane, and Ryu Hayabusa continue their hunt for Kasumi for abandoning the clan, although there appears to be a desire amongst them and Helena to see this misunderstanding come to close so Kasumi may return home.

Some of the cut scenes can drag on. If you watch the youtube of all them cut together (see below if you dont wanna get the game), its the length of a full feature film. That being said, this is probably the best story telling that this franchise has ever done. Now the dialog between the characters actually makes sense because I am getting the exposition to explain what the fuck is actually going on. I still dont know what project epsilon is or why it was a failure, but at least I have a better idea than I did in DOA2: Hardcore.

But with such a intricate story line focused on the ninja chracters, I have to wonder why they never tried to do a Ninja Gaiden spin off featuring the DOA characters? A fast paced hack and slasher where you jump from the perspectives of Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate, and other DOA characters? I would totally play that, if it was based of Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 of course. Never 3.

Fuck this got wordier than I wanted it too. Alright, to wrap this up I can acknowledge that this game will never be seen on the same tier of fighters than say Street Fighter, Tekken, or even Soul Calibur. But this is a franchise that Ive always had a soft spot for, and this installment has done a lot to work out many of the problems I had with the franchise.

If you are new to the series, or a seasoned veteran you can take my opinion for what its worth. Dead or Alive 5 is a fast, fun to play fighter with tightened, simple controls and a massive story and graphic overhaul. This installment is easily the best in the series. It will be hard for the next installment to top this one.

Deadpool PS3 Breaks the Fourth Wall but not much else

Deadpool PS3 Breaks the Fourth Wall but not much else

So, full disclosure: Up until early 2011, I really had no idea who Deadpool was. I considered myself to be a comic fan, but really wasnt all that brushed up on anything that happened after the early 90s. Priorities changed, and me and comics just kinda drifted apart. Thankfully, I work in a library so I have been using its connections to catch back up with my favorite franchises.

But around February of 2011 came the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I remember when selling reserves of the game some of my coworkers and people picking it up were very excited about the appearance of this "Deadpool" character. I shrugged it off. But then at a fight night later that week, someone played against me with him, and I laughed my ass off as he yanked the lifebar off the screen and proceeded to smash me with it. From then on, I was hooked. Ive been reading much of his back catalog, and now after a hilarious Comic-con announcement last year, Deadpool has his own game in.....

DEADPOOL: (PS3)

So the overall meta of the Deadpool games story is that Deadpool is basically holding High Moon studios hostage after they rejected his initial video game pitch. After giving a much more "explosive" proposal, High Moon Studios sends over their script for the Deadpool game.  Deadpool is clearly not happy going off a script and starts cutting through it with a crayon without reading to make his changes. After arguing with his voices a bit and dicking around his apartment, we jump into the script...

Deadpool receives a contract to kill Chance White, a corrupt media mogul. Deadpool has no idea why hes accepted this contract because he didnt read the script. But none the less Deadpool cuts and shoots his way through Whites armed guard in his headquarters to make his kill. In the wake of his destruction (and blowing the games budget in the process), White escapes with the help of Mister Sinister.

This irks Deadpool because he wont get paid if he doesnt actually kill White. Sinister makes his escape to the island of Genosha. While in pursuit of Sinister, Deadpool teams up with his old collegues with the X-Force in Wolverine, Rouge, Domino, and Psylocke and after a bit of an argument about who gets to fly the Blackbird, the group of them give pursuit to get revenge for robbing Pool of his pay (oh, and stop Sinisters scheme.)

So alright, the premise for the story is both completely fitting for the Deadpool character and at the same time feels slightly lacking. The biggest problem in the area of story is the lack of a really strong set of supporting characters. For the weeks approaching release they would tease and release images showing that Wolvie, Domino, Cable, and Rouge were all in the game. At the onset, I was pretty happy about that since these are characters I generally like and am familiar with.

But really, the only ones who gets any real extended screen time in the game are Cable and Death. They mainly serve to kinda push Deadpool along in the story, but he clearly has little interest in doing so. Its funny because those were pretty much the exact feelings I had as well. I found myself a couple of times wondering if this was meant to be something they did on purpose, or if the writing was particularly weak in that area. This really is a theme you might find yourself in for a number of the games aspects.

Cable can be described as the games Grumpy Dad.
The main antagonists, Mr. Sinister and his gaggle of D-list villains (Blockbuster, Vertigo, and Arclight) all feel kinda thrown in. Which again, seems like something that could be intentional or slapdash. Youd feel that that this is a Marvel licensed game theyd have the right to throw in characters from the entire universe. Then again because of the very nature of the Deadpool character, this allows him to completely trash how awful this cast is. It makes sense in that regard.

But what sticks in my craw about it is if you are going to advertise that these more popular Marvel characters are going to be in the game, one would hope that its going to be more than just a lame token appearance which many of these characters seem to be. You get one small section where you "sort of" play as Rouge. I dont think Psylocke even gets a line of dialog. Wolverines contribution to the story is marginal at best. Its really kind of a letdown considering the history between characters like Deadpool and Wolvie/Domino.

Full disclosure: I thought Arclight, Vertigo, and Blockbuster were made up for this game.
I know that Deadpool for the most part of his series deals with some pretty off the wall main antagonists for the majority of his main stories, but hes clashed with almost every hero and villain in the Marvel universe a one point or another. There could have been an actual fight with Wolverine or Domino, any of the previous Weapon X products, no mention of Spider-man after one small reference at the start, none of the Avengers make and appearance. There isnt even people who are more commonly known to his own franchise in there (probably because a lot of them are dead, but still.)

Really, I think a lot of Deadpools best story arcs are where hes a support character to a major player. Thor, Hulk, Spidey, and so on. I feel the game might have been better served as a series of disconnected missions with the other characters universes. Sadly thats not how it played out.

"Deadpool, we need to go off screen and be ineffectual to the plot for the next few levels, bub."
So the Deadpool games combat system I guess can be considered pretty cookie cutter for those action adventure spectacle fighter kinda games weve seen. You got your light attack, heavy attack, jump, dodge, counter functions, you can use your shoulder buttons to go into the over the shoulder 3rd person shooter kind of control scheme with pistols, shotguns, and machine guns. If you have been playing video games at all for the past 10 to 15 years nothing about the games control scheme is gonna throw you a wild curve ball. Its about as cut and dry as it gets.

However on the same token, sometimes it can feel a bit loose too. If you go into the menu for your unlocks and upgrades you will see that certain levels of weapons unlock different and more extended combos to use. But my mashing of the combos never seemed give me the inclination I was doing my combos properly. This is really an area where Deadpool can take a page from the God of War playbook. When I hit my specific button presses in that game, the combos on the screen look clearly different enough for me understand that those specific presses triggered that specific move.

Occasionally you will get the QTE button press to counter an enemy, but the window of it is small or sensitive to directional button presses, so I never seemed to be able to really rely on the ability to counter certain enemies, sans a few fights with Blockbuster where his counter is very highly telegraphed. Which makes that boss fight almost insultingly easy. Luckily for the most part if your counter doesnt work you will still teleport dodge away so you remain safe. A friend of mine thinks this was done intentionally, to make a mockery of bad gameplay, but I think thats a bit too subtle for the Deadpool universe. I think it just doesnt work well.

During the course of the game Deadpool will continue to break the fourth wall in cutscenes and a number of those deal a good amount of laughs. There was a concern that, much like recent Spider-Man games, Deadpool would overuse some of the pool of quips he has ad nauseum to the point of irritation. Depending on how long you play the game, this might be an issue or not. I for the most part didnt have much of a problem with this, but there was one line that I seemed to get much more than others: "Two extra slices for just 9.99."

It came up just enough times for me to find it irritating but not so much that it ruined the gameplay for me. What they really should have done here is give Nolan North the script, let him run through his lines, and then let him ad lib for like and hour and cram every bit of those you could fit onto the disc. This would made certain things come up a lot less frequently, or if anything allow them to play at random but no repeat until it cycles through the whole list.

The game has a tendency to keep you bottled up in some pretty lame environments through the whole game. Buildings, Sewers, factories, or dilapidated buildings. I know there is only so much you can do with environments in a game like this but a couple splashes of color would have been nice. Genosha is an island in the middle of nowhere, a few stages could have taken place in the jungle or something with some wild animals to fight.

Ultimately the game is pretty samey though and through. Youll find yourself running around hack and slashing your wear through faceless baddies until they start to shoot at you, which will be your cue to pull out your guns and fire back in kind. There is an occasional stealth element where you can sneak up on a guy and hack them to ribbons without being seen, but its so rare and so likely to go wrong you might as well keep powering through with your swords anyways.

Lastly the game also features a series of challenge maps that are kind of like horde modes. The more you beat the more you unlock further difficulties and if you manage to get a gold medal, you can get an alternate costume for Deadpool. The thing is, you can only use said costume on said challenge map, and only for its unlimited mode. So basically you only get the new costume for a section of the game you cant win or unlock more things for. Seems like a massive oversight, let me use them on the other challenges or in the story mode.

So did I like Deadpool? I have to say that I did for the most part. Its not a game thats going to break any molds or show you anything new, but for the most part its pretty functional and fun to play. The difficulty curve is a little ridiculous from time to time where in some stages youll find yourself slashing things to bits like a red and black katana cloud of death, yet 5 minutes later youll find yourself getting gunned down in the same section over and over again. It can be frustrating but not so much thatd you would stop playing.  Id say the games biggest flaw is what I perceive to be a lack of replay value.

The Deadpool game is made for those people who are clearly fans of Deadpool. I wouldnt say its a great introduction to the character for those who arent exactly familiar with him, but he does make the transition from comic to game pretty well with his character intact (for those of you who saw the X-men Origins: Wolverine, that is not how Deadpool should be).

Ultimately though, it shows why it came out at a lower price. I think the game could probably get a sequel, but I suggest that they focus on really beefing up the story aspect of the game bring in more of the more notable Marvel universe. Its not the best game to ever come out, but not bad either. Its safe. Youll get your yucks, and its fun enough to see to the end, just dont expect to keep playing it to perfection. Heres hoping for a more polished sequel, because it has potential.

Even D-Pool appreciates "Yo Dawg". Love it.

Desktop does not refresh automatically in Windows 7 8

Desktop does not refresh automatically in Windows 7 8

The Desktop or Explorer window or folder will automatically refresh itself when you make a change to its contents. This could be creating a new shortcut, creating or saving a new file or folder in it, and so on.
But at times, you may find that the desktop or the window may not auto-refresh and to see the changes, you have to manually Refresh it, either by pressing F5 or via the context menu.

Desktop does not refresh automatically

If you find that you need to frequently refresh the desktop, you can follow these steps to try and fix the problem.
dontrefresh 600x374 Fix: Desktop does not refresh automatically in Windows 7 | 8

Open Registry Editor and navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID
Here right-click and search for dontrefresh. If you find it, and if it has a value set to 1, change its value to 0. If you do not see it, create it and give it a value 0.
This is known to have helped fix the problem in most cases. If it does not, here are a few other suggestions:
1] Use ShellExView from Nirsoft and disable third-party shell extensions which may be obstructing the smooth functioning of Windows Explorer. This may be a trial-and-error method.
2] Restore the default Explorer Settings. To do so, open Folder Options and under the General tab, press Restore Defaults. Click Apply and Exit.
3] Some have found that deleting the thumbnail cache and/or rebuilding the icon cache has helped them resolve the issue.
This problem appears to be quite common so much so that there is even an acronym made for it: WEDR Windows Explorer Doesnt Refresh! So the BSOD now has a companion! icon smile Fix: Desktop does not refresh automatically in Windows 7 | 8
Microsoft has released some hotfixes to resolve such issues at KB960954 and KB823291. Please check IF they are applicable to your operating system and situation before you decide to download and apply them.
UPDATE: Please also see the comment by Truth101/Guest below.
Check this post if you find that your Recycle Bin does not refresh correctly.

Deepin os does not start dual boot with windows 8 or 10 GRUB error solution

Deepin os does not start dual boot with windows 8 or 10 GRUB error solution

 if you are having problem like windows is not getting started after dual booting with ubuntu then the same solution will work provide here

Youll need to boot from a live CD or USB drive, switch deepin fail safe mode.
 above. Ensure the version of deepin on from a live CD or USB drive, as in the graphical method above. Ensure the version of Ubuntu on
the CD is the same as the version of Ubuntu installed on your computer for example, if you
have deepin 15.03 installed, ensure you use a deepin os 15.03  live CD or usb drive.

Open a terminal after booting into the live environment. Identify the partition deepin is
installed on using one of the following commands:

sudo fdisk -l

sudo blkid

Heres the output of both commands. In the fdisk -l command, the deepin partition is identified
by the word Linux in the System column. In the blkid command, the partition is identified by its
ext4 file system.Run the following command to mount the deepin partition at /mnt, replacing /dev/sdX# with
the device name of your deepin partition from the above commands:

 For example, use /dev/sda1 for the first partition of the first hard disk device.

 Mount the partition your deepin Installation is on. If you are not sure which it is, launch GParted (included in the Live CD) and find out. It is usually a EXT4 Partition. Replace the XY
with the drive letter, and partition number, for example: sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt.

 sudo mount /dev/sdXY /mnt

 Now bind the directories that grub needs access to to detect other operating systems, like so.

sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev &&
sudo mount --bind /dev/pts /mnt/dev/pts &&
sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc &&
sudo mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys

 Now we jump into that using chroot.

sudo chroot /mnt

Now install, check, and update grub.
This time you only need to add the drive letter (usually a) to replace X, for example: grub-install /dev/sda, grub-install recheck /dev/sda.

grub-install /dev/sdX

 grub-install --recheck /dev/sdX

update-grub

Now grub is back, all that is left is to exit the chrooted system and unmount everything.

exit &&
 sudo umount /mnt/sys &&

sudo umount /mnt/dev/proc &&

sudo umount /mnt/dev/pts &&

sudo umount /mnt/dev &&

sudo umount /mnt

Shut down and turn your computer back on, and you will be met with the default Grub2 screen.
You may want to update grub or re-install burg however you like it.
Congratulations, you have just Repaired/Restored/Reinstalled Grub 2 with a deepin Live CD!
